Take Social Media Off-line

I always enjoy talking with people concerning Social Media topics. I thought it would be great to discuss taking Social Media and actually moving it into a ‘real world’ situation.

I first met another Indianapolis New Media Marketer on Twitter. We first began our conversation about Harley Davidson bikes.  Our passion for things in common, led us to more discussions about New Media challenges we both face in our respective companies.

Upon meeting in person, we found we had more in common than we originally thought. The one disadvantage to keeping everything on-line is that you can’t read the tone of the person entirely.

Upon further discussion, he knew of a company that wasn’t a great fit for his company but he felt may be a great fit for our company.

After our meeting, I received a contact from the person he mentioned. We met for lunch ( I love food!), and decided to meet in our office and discuss further.

After the lunch discussion and discovery, I’m proud to say that we now have a ‘raving fan’ client that we offer our full service offerings. All because of one ‘tweet’.

Through this discovery we not gained not only a client, but gained a new friend in the Social Media community.

Did I forget to Blog? Big Props!!

OK, so I work for a company that deals in Internet Marketing strategies and I haven’t posted a blog in 6 weeks! What have I been up to?

Well, I have acquired about a dozen great clients that take my time with:

-New Media Strategies
-High End Web Production
-Amazing Video and IT services.

Now part of the New Media Strategy involves blogging! We’ve found a great partner that makes a really great SaaS blogging platform. Compendium Blogware They have created a great way to use compended blogs to generate great Google rankings! Check them out, I’ll wait.

They have a clever way of taking the time to SEO a blog and all the technical junk and let you focus on content and improving your ROI.

The stuff works folks.

OK, as my ADD is kicking back in I’ve met so many wonderful New Media folks out there. Check out Colin Clark And Kyle Lacy at Brandswag.com. These guys really understand every cool Social Media tool out there.

Also, big props to Don Schindler and MediaSauce. Don is one the best spoken and intelligent folks I’ve had the pleasure of being around. He also helped me out tremendously and I owe him big.

Plus rides a Harley Davidson too.

I can’t forget my co-worker Derek McClain. He’s just Like the Brandswag guys as he’s a blogging freak. I love his attitude and discipline.

Also, every once in a while I do something extra amazing!!

I’m proud to announce that Kevin Hood is joining the ranks of Fusework Studios. Kevin has been an Internet Marketer since the later 90’s before SEO was SEO! He’s also great at all things New Media and a world class drummer as well. We met 15 years ago in College when we were both Music geeks.

I promise to write better, more informative blogs!

When life throws you apples, make applesauce!

It’s been a busy couple months!!!!!

OK, well…So little to do and sooo much time! :)

Interruption Marketing works!!

mcdonaldsnick jrharley davidson

With children!!

Marketing guru Seth Godin has one key point. Interruption Marketing doesn’t work! Now, most of you Internet Marketing guru’s know who Seth is. (if not click his name in blue)

I agree with what Seth has to say regarding how traditional marketing such as TV and Radio don’t work like they use to. I agree that society has changed all this, but one person proved it isn’t all lost.

My 2 year old daughter Sophia!

Sophia doesn’t understand the web other than you can play Dora the Explorer and that people probably spend too much time banging on the keys. (as she enjoys!) The ‘puter to her is nothing more than a toy. For a very young child it is.

However, brand identity is built into our DNA. McDonald’s comes to mind first. The second we tasted the greasy goodness of a fry we were in heaven. Mix that with a cheap novelty toy from the latest Disney movie and you’re in golden arches clutches forever!!I would wager that anyone 35 or younger that was a natural born U.S. citizen does not remember the first experience! 50 billion cheeseburgers and several continents later I think we have a well defined brand that hasn’t changed much in 50 years. STAYING POWER! Try driving in a car with a young child past those blasted arches and see if you don’t have to stop! Have I been interrupted?

I also learn more about how children think of brand identity from my daughter. She knows EXACTLY what Nick Jr, Icarly, Drake and Josh and every Disney movie are! (and the commercials that follow)

I don’t think these shows are hurting from a ratings perspective. I’m sure that ad revenue is down due to the recent Viacom/ Time Warner dispute.(FYI, I worked for Time Warner over a decade ago!)

My daughter also knows the Harley Davidson logo. There are two reasons she knows this. Her father and uncle both own one! When she saw the logo and said ” Harley Davidson Motorcycles” I thought she was a genius!

I could go on and on about how a two year child has taught me things about branding and marketing that I thought were dead. They’ve just changed to a more exclusive and younger market.
